A few slides on some of the challenges and opportunities of assessing programming, presented at the CAS Assessment Working Group gathering on 16 January 2016

In summary:

  • Assessing programming will include some assessment of CT
  • Be clear about the constructs / criteria you wish to assess
  • We can use closed form questions, but look beyond just MCQs
  • We can assess programming through projects
  • Vivas can help here if you’ve the time
  • Machines can also help here - for the first four ‘levels’ of programming
  • Pedagogy matters
