Secondary Master Teacher, Lead School and Hub Leaders Meeting

Monday Feb 26, 2018 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM

Hosted by CAS East Midlands (Nottingham Trent University)

Our termly Master Teacher, Lead School and Hub meeting will take place on Monday 26th February.

We are pleased to welcome Duncan Maidens from Birmingham University who will introduce you to teaching networks with light boxes (which we will be purchasing a set of) and to the CISCO academy. Duncan trains teachers on how to use these tools in the classroom, and this session will be specifically for use in the Secondary classroom.
Text is coded into binary 1's and 0's using ASCII codes and an opportunity for your school to become a CISCO Academy. This session will look at using some simple boxes with flashing LEDs to simulate simple networks and illustrate how we send individual characters over any communications link. The session will go on to investigate how we manage the data transfer and ultimately run TCP, the protocol used in the Internet. The session will then look at how the circuit can be 'hacked' and what we can do to stop this. We will also explain how your school can become a CISCO Academy and how you can use the free resources available to teach the computing curriculum.

This will also give you the opportunity to catch up with all the latest news, and network with the other MTs, Lead schools and hubs in our region.

Our primary colleagues will be joining us on the day, although in different sessions, so there will be an opportunity for you all to get together and swap notes.

Following on from the success of the last meeting, we will be working together to produce resources for hard to teach (or new) topics in the afternoon, so come with all your questions and topics you don't understand. We might not know how to do them at the start, but by the end we will!
