CAS Primary Teachers Session

Thursday Mar 22, 2018 from 9:15AM to 4:00PM

Hosted by CAS East Midlands (Nottingham Trent University)

This course is ideal for staff working with pupils in key stage 1 and/or pupils with special educational needs. It is a practical workshop which explores a range of unplugged activities, most of which have been sourced through Barefoot materials, to support children’s understanding of key vocabulary to develop their computational thinking. The activities highlight ways in which key concepts such as algorithm, debug, logic, decomposition, patterns, abstraction and evaluation can be introduced before pupils attempt to put them into practice through the use of technology.
The lessons will support pupils to understand how to approach problem solving in order for them to then focus on their technical skills when they are using technology. The session will explore several individual introductory lesson ideas which could then be adapted to support your pupils.
These are intended to be fun activities to engage learners and encourage team building and collaborative learning. The workshop will also allow for sharing of additional ideas and extensions for all to use.
Progression in Programming. We will be examining the concepts which underpin the computing curriculum from year 1 to year 6. Delegates will try age appropriate activities using free to use Scratch. Schemes of work, with cross-curricular links, will be available to take away.
