This part time course is primarily for teachers who need the knowledge and confidence to teach computing and computer science at GCSE level. You will cover computer science foundation and also develop computer programs in the Python programming language. Previous computer programming skills are not required.
The course will be delivered by Teesside University and kindly hosted by The Venerable Bede academy in Sunderland and covers the following:
Foundation computer science topics
Binary and hexadecimal, truth tables and logic gates, structure of the processor, hardware, representations of data, networking and internet and the GCSE controlled assessment task.
Programming topics using Python
Variables, types and casts, sequence, selection, iteration, lists, parameters and return values, file handling, writing functions and debugging. Sessions are split into Computer Science and Programming. All the technology and software required to complete the course is provided. You should bring your own USB stick to take copies of your code away with you to continue your training at home.
