We tend to focus on practical ideas for teachers - primarily secondary but would love to get some primary teachers involved too.

Please give any suggestions for things that would be useful to you, or things that you think would help others.

All welcome - the more the merrier from complete novices to anybody who would love to share what they’ve done!

Teesside

The original and best!

The first hub in the North East continues to keep on keeping on. With the plethora of hubs now available in the best part of the world we tend to focus on the Tees Valley, though everyone is welcome from far and wide and we regularly have people travelling from Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas.

We tend to move around so we don’t get too stale, but Mark is based at Egglescliffe School in Eaglescliffe, just past the bottom end of Stockton on Tees.

We always try to include at least one practical workshop session at each meeting as well as discussions and group activities to devise resources, create plans and share moderation.

At least one meeting per year is a joint meeting with the Teesside Primary Hub, helping primary and secondary colleagues to share ideas.

Canterbury CCCU

As a hub located centrally in Kent our focus is on providing support to create a self-sustaining network to enhance the teaching of computing across both Primary and Secondary schools.

Though our base will be in Canterbury we will also be able to utilise our extensive Kent wide campus locations as well as holding meetings in partnership schools who wish to share particular expertise or equipment. We will meet termly (i.e. six times a year) but this can be extended depending on the interests of participating teachers and schools. Our focus will be introducing and developing the Computing Curriculum, supporting teachers towards moving towards CAS Master in Computing status, support around Teachers as Researchers as well as linking CPD to further academic accreditation with a computing focus.

We also aim to ensure that our student teachers with an interest in computing and STEM can meet and work with a range of teachers and educators across Primary, Secondary, FE and HE.

Cardiff

Wales is undergoing a major reformulation of its entire school curriculum, due for full implementation by 2021. The ‘Digital Competence Framework’ (DCF) is the umbrella phrase now in use in Wales, a descriptor which was introduced by the Donaldson Review. The DCF is in its draft implementation.

The DCF is a broad cross-curricular entitlement alongside literacy and numeracy but unlike England it does not directly include Computer Science. Thus the initial focus of professional support and development in Wales may be different from that of England. The development of the DCF, rather than a Computing curriculum, implies a greater focus focus on what is more commonly known to CAS as ‘digital literacy’.

Ryedale

Welcome to the Rydale CAS Hub.

The official reasons for having a hub are here. For me, its a chance to share problems, possible solutions and to have a better idea what is happening at Primary and Secondary for our students. The first meeting will give you a chance to say what you need, and future meetings will be planned around these needs.
