CAS Southampton hub

This hub has been renamed from the CAS Wessex hub as it is now permanently hosted by the University of Southampton, STEM Learning and is hosted by Tig Williams, Rob Blair, Phil Bagge and Les Carr.

The current plan is to hold regular hub meetings at the University of Southampton (at least once per term) and include practical training where necessary based on the original “Computing & Cake” pilot project set up by Les Carr.

Recently the hub has been opened to cover primary and secondary sectors.

Dover

Our focus is on informal, friendly and practical workshops with some networking with like-minded colleagues thrown in.

We tend to meet on at least a bi-termly basis depending on need and demand. Most sessions are held at Dover College in Dover, however, I am very happy to rotate locations throughout the county.

Last year with had several sessions on Greenfoot beginning with the basics through to creating platform games. We also learned how to program in Small Basic.

We have a number of interesting events coming up this year so please keep an eye out for updates.

I look forward to seeing you, all are welcome.

Canterbury CCCU

CAS Canterbury CCCU

As a hub located centrally in Kent our focus is on providing support to create a self-sustaining network to enhance the teaching of computing across both Primary and Secondary schools.

Though our base will be in Canterbury we will also be able to utilise our extensive Kent wide campus locations as well as holding meetings in partnership schools who wish to share particular expertise or equipment. We will meet termly (i.e. six times a year) but this can be extended depending on the interests of participating teachers and schools. Our focus will be introducing and developing the Computing Curriculum, supporting teachers towards moving towards CAS Master in Computing status, support around Teachers as Researchers as well as linking CPD to further academic accreditation with a computing focus.

We also aim to ensure that our student teachers with an interest in computing and STEM can meet and work with a range of teachers and educators across Primary, Secondary, FE and HE.

The Hub is run by Karl Bentley (Primary) and Stephen Lea (Secondary). The first meeting is planned for 19 November. We look forward to meeting new members!
