I’m very excited to announce that our next Stockport Primary Hub meeting, on Thursday 2nd March, will be a Barefoot Computing workshop delivered by one of the authors of the resources, Dr Jon Chippindall, probably best known to lots of you as Dr Chips. You can find out more about some of the work that he’s been involved with recently via his Twitter account (@DrChips_) and can read more about what a Barefoot workshop involves below.
We expect this session to be a popular one so make sure you book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
What happens at a Barefoot workshop?
At a Barefoot workshop, the volunteer provides an introduction to the free Barefoot website and resources, discuss how the resources complement the computing curriculum and demonstrates a range of the teaching activities.
The resources are all designed to be cross-curricular and fit in with other subjects within the primary curriculum, a lot of the resources are ‘unplugged’ activities and demonstrate how computing can be taught without the need for computers!
The workshop is interactive - teachers will be asked to get involved with lots of the unplugged activities and hopefully have some fun whilst realising that teaching computing is not something to be feared, in fact they are teaching a lot of the core elements within other areas of the curriculum already!
